What inspired you to start Forgotten Weapons?
I've been interested in firearms for as long as I can remember, and I wanted to share my knowledge and expertise with others who share that same passion.
How do you find the firearms you feature on the channel?
I spend a lot of time researching and networking with collectors, museums, and other firearms experts. Sometimes I'm lucky enough to stumble across something unusual on my own, but most of the time it's a matter of reaching out to other people in the community and seeing what they have.
What kind of qualifications do you have to talk about firearms?
I've been studying guns for over 20 years, and I have a degree in anthropology with a focus on material culture. I've also worked as a consultant for firearms manufacturers and have written several books on the subject.
Do you have any favorite firearms?
That's a tough question, because I like them all for different reasons! But if I had to pick one, it would be the M1 Garand. It's an iconic weapon that played a pivotal role in American history.
How do you ensure the safety of yourself and your team when handling firearms?
We take safety very seriously on the channel. All of our team members are highly trained in proper firearms handling and safety protocols, and we work with a lot of experienced collectors who are also well-versed in safe gun handling.
Do you think firearms should be more regulated?
As a historian and researcher, I try to stay neutral on political and moral issues surrounding firearms. My focus is on education and exploration of the mechanics and history of these weapons.
What's the most unusual firearm you've ever handled?
That's a tough question, because I've handled a lot of really weird guns over the years! But one that really stands out is the Krummlauf, a German prototype rifle with a curved barrel that was designed for firing around corners. It's a really strange and fascinating piece of engineering.
What do you think is the future of firearms technology?
It's hard to say where things will go from here, but I think we'll continue to see advancements in materials science and manufacturing techniques that will allow for more precise and efficient firearms design.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start collecting firearms?
Start small and do your research! There are a lot of pitfalls to avoid when it comes to buying, storing, and maintaining firearms, so it's important to take the time to educate yourself before jumping into collecting.
How do you deal with criticism or negative comments on your videos?
I try to take criticism in stride and use it as an opportunity to improve my content. Of course, there are also plenty of trolls and haters out there who just want to spread negativity, but I try not to let them get to me.
