Kerry Washington rang in her 44th year on Jan. 31, and the actor celebrated her birthday by reminiscing about a memory from one of her earlier celebrations. The Little Fires Everywhere star posted a throwback photo of herself at one of her childhood birthday parties to Instagram. Washington expressed her "deep gratitude" for the birthday love she's received.
In the picture, Washington is seen blowing out the candles on one of her two birthday cakes while wearing a white woven headband and blue knit cardigan.
In the caption of the cute throwback pic, she graciously thanked all those who'd wished her a happy birthday. "Sending you ALL love and deep gratitude today for all these beautiful birthday wishes," Washington wrote. "I feel so loved and blessed to get to spend another year with you all. Washington has long expressed her excitement about getting older.
While some celebrities are less than eager to discuss their age publicly, Washington has never shied away from the topic.
"Life is just getting better," she admitted to Glamour in a 2017 interview. "For me, 40 feels like a beginning. I'm in the middle of so much new—with this career, the kids, and I'm still sort of a newlywed. I'm excited to be at this stage in life." And she has one trick for keeping her youthful glow.
Though Washington may be excited about what the years to come have in store, she's also been vocal about how taking care of herself—and her skin in particular—has been an important part of her journey toward self-acceptance.
"I do think of my skincare routine as self-love," Washington told Vogue in a Dec. 2020 video interview, in which she detailed her multi-step skincare routine, which includes everything from a rosewater aura mist to an SPF serum. "Self-care isn't about fixing yourself or twisting yourself into a pretzel to please other people. It's really about being the best version of you."
