As the coronavirus pandemic continues to crater the U.S. economy, household budgets across the country are tighter than ever. Since you're probably looking to save money any way you can these days, we have one amazing shopping trick for you to use the next time you're at Walmart. The truth is, those "everyday low prices" may be even cheaper online. So before you head to the register, check the prices of your items on Walmart online. If you can show the cashier that an item is cheaper on Walmart's website, they'll match the price for you.
This insider tip is hidden on Walmart's website, but it can save you tons of cash. The site reads, "We will match Walmart.com and Jet.com base price, for identical items purchased in a Walmart store," as long as the item meets the following criteria:
- The item must be currently in-stock online.
- The size, model, quantity, brand, color, etc. must match exactly.

Just know that the register may prompt the Walmart associate to get supervisor approval and that quantities may be limited to "one-per-customer, per item, per day."
An anonymous Walmart associate confirmed this trick to Business Insider, saying that checking prices online can often lead to in-store savings that can add up quickly. "If the item costs less online, then the store will comp," the employee revealed in 2019. "The item just has to be sold on Walmart.com."
Internet-savvy shoppers have used this tactic for some time, but now that the world's largest retailer has greatly expanded its online retail platform, chances are even higher that you could find some sweet savings on Walmart's website.
A similar approach also works for orders made online, as Walmart.com will also match prices on the same products that competitors are selling on their sites. "If you find a lower price from an online retailer on an identical, in-stock product, tell us and we'll match it," the Walmart website reads. "If you think you are eligible … contact Walmart Customer Care before you place your order. We will verify the item eligibility."
