Those of us who like to imbibe have our preferences, whether that's a mixed drink or something a little more straightforward. When it comes to the latter, there's no question about one thing: Americans love our beer. A 2020 economic impact study conducted by the National Beer Wholesalers Association found that the beer industry contributes over $328 billion to the U.S. economy annually—more than three times the wine and spirits industries. Bottoms up!
But which beers are we reaching for on a hot day? As it turns out, the answer varies quite a bit based on where you live. Overall, Budweiser is the top pick—you don't earn the moniker "King of Beers" for nothing—with Statista noting that the company is valued at more than $16 billion. But if you get down to a more granular level, you'll find that beer choices are different state to state. So, which beer is the favorite among your friends and neighbors?
To find out, Food and Wine magazine consulted Google Trends and discovered the beer brand people searched for most often in each state in 2018. Some of these brands are mainstream classics, while others are somewhat deeper cuts. But all of them earned a spot at the top of their list based on the number of Google searches being done. Read on to find out which beer is the most popular in your state, and the other 49.
